Microburbs

Privacy Policy

Effective date: 15 September 2026

1. Introduction

Microburbs respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988.

2. Types of Personal Information We Collect

  • Contact Information: Names, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses
  • Property Information: Details regarding property ownership and investment motivations
  • Financial Information: Payment details for subscriptions or services
  • Usage Data: IP addresses, browser types, and browsing behaviour patterns

3. How We Collect Personal Information

We collect personal information directly from you when you provide it through forms, subscribe to our newsletter, subscribe to our services, surveys, and interactions with our services.

We also obtain information from third-party sources including public records, government databases, and partners. Automated technologies like cookies and web beacons gather website interaction data. We only collect personal information if it is reasonably necessary for, or directly related to, our functions or activities.

4. Use of Personal Information

  • Provide, maintain, and improve services
  • Personalise platform experiences
  • Send updates, newsletters, and promotional materials
  • Perform analysis and research to enhance services
  • Develop new features
  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Resolve disputes and enforce agreements

5. Disclosure of Personal Information

We may share your information with third-party service providers who assist us in operating our business and providing our services. Information may be disclosed to comply with legal requirements or lawful requests by public authorities. Data transfers may occur during mergers, acquisitions, or asset sales.

6. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, use, and disclosure. These measures include physical, technical, and administrative safeguards.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as is reasonably necessary for the purposes set out in this policy — including providing and supporting your account and API access, meeting our legal and record-keeping obligations, resolving disputes, and enforcing our agreements. Where Australian law requires us to keep particular records, such as financial and transaction records, we keep them for the period the law requires.

When personal information is no longer required for any of those purposes, we take reasonable steps to destroy it or to de-identify it, in accordance with Australian Privacy Principle 11.2. Information removed from our live systems may persist in secure backups for a limited period before those backups are overwritten.

You may ask us to delete the personal information we hold about you by contacting our Privacy Officer using the details below. We will do so unless we are required by law to retain it, in which case we will tell you.

8. Our API, MCP Server and Developer Tools

This section describes what we handle when you use the Microburbs API or our MCP server, rather than our website.

  • What the API returns is information about places, not people. Addresses, parcels, sales and rental records, valuations, Census statistics, schools, zoning and hazard information describe property and geography. They are drawn from public registers, government datasets and market records, and from our own models. API responses do not contain the personal information of the people who own, occupy or transact on a property.
  • What we record when you make a call. To authenticate you, meter usage and bill correctly, we record the identifier of the API key used, the account email associated with it, the endpoint called, the time, the response status and the number of units charged. We also keep standard server logs, including IP address, for security, rate limiting and diagnosing faults. We do not sell this information, and we do not use the content of your queries to build a profile of you.
  • Your queries. The addresses and suburbs you look up are visible to us in those logs and usage records. We use them to operate, secure and improve the service. Retention follows section 7.
  • Our sandbox key. The published sandbox credential is shared and unauthenticated by design. Calls made with it are not attributed to any individual, and it must not be used to transmit personal information.
  • Your obligations. If you combine our data with personal information of your own, you become responsible for that combined dataset under the Privacy Act and our Terms of Use.

9. User Rights

You can request access to and correction of your personal information by contacting us. Marketing communication opt-outs are available through email unsubscribe instructions or direct contact.

10. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to collect information about your usage of our website and to enhance your user experience. Browser settings allow you to manage cookie preferences.

11. International Data Transfers

Cross-border personal information transfers receive protection to a similar standard as required under Australian law.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically, notifying users through website postings and effective date updates.
